Wow -- guess I'm TV deprived. I never heard of the Heights. Checked out the YouTube vid and there are all these comments about how people got hooked on the show and the song was #1 etc. I don't remember any of this.

But -- thought the song was pretty generic pop rock.

The Wonders, tho', are spot on imitation of '60's pop rock. That Thing You Do has really cool changes. Effective use of major to minor. And there are a couple of other tunes played at spots throughout the movie that are fun, too.

(Trivia -- the bass player for Fountains of Wayne wrote the songs. His name's Adam Schlesinger.)
