No I said when a band becomes popular. When your grandma listens to it and likes it its no longer metal.
Things that are not Metal but people under 25 believe it to be.
    AC/DC
Posion, Winger and any other band with a power ballad
Kiss - I do think that they influenced alot
    Twisted Sister
    Rob Zombie
    NIN
    Led Zepplin

    Airplay doesn't always equal popularity.

What if your grandma's a metalhead? And I've never heard of Led Zepplin.

I don't think that Metallica sold out, but I do think that they just started sucking. I just think the quality of music on Load and ReLoad suck. I don't judge them on if they get their hair cut or shut down napster or whatever. I just judge the music based on how it sounds.

A band usually gets big because of airplay.
Album wish list: Black Sabbath, Queen II, Static Age, Ride the Lightning, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

Even though hair metal was cheesy and overly popular it was still METAL no matter how "pop" it was.

and to be fair i don't think Led Zeppelin were ever "metal"...they helped give birth to metal though.

All that being said the main point is that whenever i see some bash Metallica's later albums all i think of is how they're missing out on some great music

That is the problem with Metallica. They got famous by strictly word of underground. So when they had a video on MTV everyone started saying they were selling out and then their music changed.

This is maybe the third time I can honestly say that you have a legit reason for not liking those two albums. If the whole blues metal (yay oxymorons) style just ain't your thing, then that is a credible reason.

Really explain Phish, Jimmy Buffett pre 5:00 somewhere, ICP, and hundreds of other singers/bands that do not get alot of airplay? See ya'll don't know life without MTV. Bands back in the day had to depend on word of mouth if the were not mainstream. The Ramones, Ny dolls, and acts coming out of the punk scene didn't recieve alot of airplay. Slayer, Pantera, and Metal do not recieve alot of airplay outside of MTV and Sat radio. When I was you age.... by the way ain't it past ya'lls bed time? When I was your age you had to go buy an album or hear about it from your friend who heard it from his friend. Thats how I learned about good music. Just cause it gets airplay doesn't make the thing good. I don't hear you singing the praises of Lou Bega.

Haha. I actually like Lou Bega.

I think that most of the people that enjoy new Metallica are saying that you shouldn't dislike a band because they are mainstream not that it can't happen.
