Greatest Solo Acts Of All Time

I'm wondering which of these solo acts were the greatest of all time and why name at least one good song or album they did

Personally I most of them all:

I Like David Bowie's album: Ziggy Stardust...... and his songs lets dance, and fame

I Like Eric Clapton's album: Slowhand and love all his songs in cream and Derek and the Dominoes

I Like Bob Seger's songs (because I don't know the albums he did): Hollowood nights, old time rock and roll, night moves, turn the page

I Like Ozzy Ozbourne's: Crazy Train

I Like George Thurgood's songs: one burben one scotch one beer, and bad to the bone

I Like Tom Petty's songs: Free Fallin, Breakdown, and You Got Lucky

I Like Alice Cooper's songs: Poison. and School's Out

I Don't Like Paul McCartney (no offense I just don't like his songs)

I Like Robert Plant's Album: Now And Zen, I also, love all songs by Led Zeppelin

I Have Never Heard Any Of John Lennon's Songs, but I know there good

I am Personally choosing Eric Clapton because of his album Slowhand and he created the Slowhand style

edit: Alice Cooper WAS a band. so do you mean classic alice or 80's alice

I Like Alice Cooper's songs: Poison. and School's Out

Technically speaking and from a fan purist point of view School's Out is a song from when the name Alice Cooper referred to the band. The original Alice Cooper Group recorded and wrote everything from Pretties For You in 1969 to Muscle of Love in 1973. The album Welcome To My Nightmare was the first solo album from Alice Cooper and he's been solo ever since often rotating musicians in and out of the band and often giving some young up and comers their first big break ie; Kip Winger, Ken Mary, Kane Roberts, Al Pitrelli etc.

All that being said I voted for ALice.

I voted for Bowie because even though I'm a huge fan of nearly all the acts up there, Bowie has such a vast collection of awesome stuff from The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust to Heroes to Scary Monsters and Super Creeps.

I've always wondered that, too. I've also always hated the idea of a "solo act". It's like saying, "well, I'm more important all of you guys in my backing band, so I'm just going to release everything under my name, alright?" Many of my favorite musicians have done it and released some good music, but couldn't they at least say something like ____ and the ____ band, like Bob Marley and the Wailers?

The only true solo act I can think of is Trent Reznor, but he gets some help with programming on his albums, so he isn't completely solo, but at least he goes under the moniker of Nine Inch Nails.

I almost voted Bowie, it was real close for me. Ultimately I like the majority of Alice's stuff over the majority of Bowie's. I like all of Bowie but only genuinely love the Ziggy Stardust/Aladdin Sane era's up to the Berlin trilogy. Whereas I love all of Coops stuff.

They get the name solo acts because they write the majority of the music for the album and the band will play what he/she tells them to. Many of them would use drum machines to program the basic drums they wanted. In "bands" it is supposed to be a colabritive effort. Solo acts focus much more on what the solo artists want to portray and studio musicians help them portray it. Although not compleatly solo Quathorian of Bathory would get my vote for a Great solo artist, he wrote all the music and lyrics and was on his own for 15 or so of the bands 20 year run.

you really need to redo this poll, because of all the people listed before me, especially neil young. and lets not forget the real one man band. Trent reznor. Say what you might about his music but he does compose it all.
