The part you bolded means jack squat. All it means is that the setlist won't be entirely composed of bands that have already been in a music game (dunno if he's counting the 10000 karaoke games, though)

Cannot wait for the announcement, this genre of game is built on hype, having a great song list will build that and then sell the game!

Not sure how it would affect DLC purchases though, haha

Yes, but that could be taken either way. Either we could be getting AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, King Crimson, The Beatles, so on and so forth... or we could be getting an absolute ton of indie bands that no one's ever heard of before

It could als mean that there could be some band such as the Beatles, AC/DC,Led Zep, ect ect. So Dont discount it as nothing just yet.
I choose to look at it positve though, negativity just isnt my bag.

Why do so many people (like the article author) read "over 80 songs" and then immediately state that the game will have exactly 80 songs? "over 80 songs" means "81 songs or more".

Personally I would guess 80 main setlist songs and another 9-12 bonus tracks... but we will see.

[EDIT] Actually, make that 81 main setlist songs. 9 tiers * 9 songs/tier. Since the bonus setlist in RB1 had 13 songs, if we were to scale that like the main setlist (hypothetically) scales we'd get ~23 bonus songs, so 104 songs overall is my prediction .

[EDIT2] killer_roach's idea (edited in while I was making my edit is more sensible; 100 tracks total makes a lot of sense.

It's entirely possible that "playlist" means "setlist"... leaving the bonus tour songs to be announced later.

EDIT: For total number of tracks, I'd go with 81 main setlist tracks (9x9, consistent with rumor) and an additional 19 bonus tour tracks to get up to 100.

Aye, my guess, is it will likely be some of both. In the IGN article I believe there was a quote along the lines of "The setlist reads like a Who's Who of rock history. . ." However, I could also see them having a Bonus Tour composed of indie bands and HMX bands, etc. like in RB1. Still though, 80+ songs for 60 bucks is a great deal.
