    MrHartGrave I liked your blog!

Unfortunately this didn't answer any of my questions about the actual Cruefest Tournament because you entered a qualifier to win tix to the concert... not the actual tournament at the concert.

    Good story though...

Anyone that knows the deal of how Cruefest is run let me know...

It looks like you have to play Saints of Los Angeles and whomever gets the high score moves on...

As I was walking in the gate today at the Virginia Beach Crufest some guys asked me to play drums for them at the second stage thing. Well I said no and walked by. I guess anyone can enter the tournament. Well the guys that asked me to play with them were older than me, Im 22, they were in their high 30s 40s. Well I guess they found someone to play drums for them and the bastardos WON!! They get up on stage before the Crue takes the stage AND THEY PLAY CREEP!!!! THEY CALL THEMSELVES OLD MEN GONE WILD!!!! AND THEY ALL PLAY ON HARD!!!!! I WAS LIKE WTF IS THIS CRAP!!! I'VE GOT THE ANIMAL ACHIEVMENT!!!! I COULDA GOT ON THAT STAGE AND PLAYED RTTH ON EXPERT BY MYSELF AND GOT THE WHOLE AMPITHEATER JUMPING BETTER THAN THOSE FOOLS !!!! I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT THEY SAY THESE GUYS WON THE TOURNY AND THEN THEY GET ON STAGE AND PLAY THAT EASY SONG ON HARD!!!! I SHOULDA DRUMMED FOR THEM, I DIDNT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS so I didnt think that playing Rockband when I walked in the gate would get me a chance to open for Motley Crue!!! I thought that it was just a fun kinda thing, like who wants to play roackband and showoff. THIS SUCKS. I need Doc Brown and the Delorean.

first you got your story wrong, the 4 of us in the first post were the 96x winners we were the same ppl at the concert last night.

the lag was so bad you couldn't play expert, it was a good half second off and no time to test the set out, they just throw you on stage and you play that one song.

and from what they told us it was do not fail, we were the only the 2nd band to pass onstage, and others were playing on easy and med and failed 30 seconds into a song,

so you can get up there and play expert along with the rest of you band and see how far you make it, even on hard i was still in the mid 90% and i can fc creep on expert drums.

but anywho it was fun to get up there, the sound was off for the first 20 sec. of the song which sucked and tommy was right beside us doing his drum check so it was hard to hear what the hell was gonna on

hey arbil, all four of us play expert and either fc or in the 96% or better in almost all the songs. we all have at least 40 gold stars in the original music music list not including the dlc. the drummer is in the top 400, the guitarist is a top 225 the singer is top 150 and the bass player is a top 400 as well! the lag was so bad that you couldnt hit the hammer ons and pulloffs on the songs. we played creep because there were not alot of notes scattered around the board and if there were they were the same notes.. at least we won got to meet the bands, played in front of 6-8 thousand people, experienced what the rock life is like on stage and have the ability to say we opened for motley crue while you WATCHED. can you say that. no! all you can say is how bad it was. thats why you were in the bleachers or probly the lawn, and left with a t-shirt. meanwhile we had a once in a lifetime experience. next time dont be a chickens@#$ and get on the f#ckin stage!

Dudes, I vouch for them, the lag was so bad on the stage it was ridiculous. And these guys kick ass, so anyone who doesn't think so, we will be setting up a tournament as soon as we get all the ducks in line, so you all can come out and show what you got.

Anyways, thanks everyone for coming out.

I will tell you how it went for us.

There is a rock band stage set up somewhere at the concert site with a tent off to the side. They have multiple set ups for people to mess around in the tent and sign up for the competition.

You are only allowed to pick from a list of songs they have. Only songs I remember are Interstate Love Song, Blitzkrieg Bop, and Paranoid. Also, I am not even sure I remember those right except the STP song because that is the one we did for the competition. I do remember reading somewhere on the rules it stating that the song had to be less than 4 mins long. Additionally, Whatever song you win with, assuming you win...that is the song you will do on stage.

Now that isn't exactly how it went for us. Since we picked a DLC song for the competition and it wasn't on the box for the main stage we ended up having to pick something else.

The main competition that we did was judged on two things. Score and performance. Score is self explanatory. Performance is based off of your rock attitude or flare while playing. If you strike poses or do rock moves while playing and still do well, you score points with the judges. Theoretically, if a band played at a lower difficulty than you and they had more rock attitude they could essentially win.

Now, I will honestly tell you that playing on the rock band stage in the competition wasnt that bad for me and I was doing some moves. This was especially important since I was the singer. During the competition the intstuments were poorly calibrated or not calibrated so my band mates weren't able to show any flare because they were more concerned with not failing. However, we made it.

Make sure your singer can sound good while singing whatever song. Yes, they have to actually sing. No humming. You could pick a killer rock song and if your singer sounds like crud it could be very bad for when you get up on main stage in front of the whole concert crowd. If you were to make it that far. It doesn't have to be exactly like the real singer but make sure that the singer doesn't have to stretch themselves to the point they sound like nails on a chalkboard or can't hold the long notes. Because, in the end, the crowd is only gonna get mean on two things. If your singer hurts their ears or that big FAILED sign comes up on the big screen monitors. The rock band reps told us all the bands previous to us minus one all got boo'd off stage. So beware. Sound good, and don't fail.

I look at it this way. We had one poster in this forum flame us for playing hard. I'll accept that versus the whole crowd in real life booing us off the stage because of unknown issues like lag compensation, no sound, sound delay, or whatever can go wrong.

In the end the crowd cheered for us and was singing with me by the time we made it to the last quarter of the song. So for everyone that is going to Cruefest, there is my experience and I hope that clears things up for you.

Final note: We got to meet a couple of guys from Sixx:AM and Trapt. We got to talk to the drummer and bassist of Trapt at length and of course we asked them if they even played rock band. They told us they had just started a band and just got their tour bus. They mentioned it is something they just started messing around with for fun. The guys were impressed by our performance in the private tent area backstage. That gave us a real morale boost before we got on the main stage. I mean if a real rocker tells you, hey you guys are pretty good. It does make you feel pretty good considering they do it for a living and we aren't real rockers by a long shot.
