TOM COCHRANE

Tom Cochrane, O.C. (born May 14, 1953) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and musician, whose story-telling songs have earned him the nickname "The thinking man's rocker." His music has been critically referred to as the "soundtrack to a mid-life crisis". His best known song is the hit single "Life Is a Highway" which peaked at #6 on the US Billboard charts in 1992 and was a number one hit in his native Canada. The track also hit #1 in Australia where Cochrane has a very loyal following. He still remains a major act in his home country.

Gordon Meredith Lightfoot, Jr., C.C., O.Ont., (born 17 November 1938) is a Canadian singer and songwriter who achieved international success in folk, country, and popular music. As a singer-songwriter, he came to prominence in the 1960s, and broke through on the international music charts in the 1970s with songs such as "If You Could Read My Mind" (1970), "Sundown" (1974) and "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (1976). His songs have been recorded by some of the world's most successful recording artists, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Bob Dylan. Robbie Robertson of The Band declared that Lightfoot was one of his "favourite Canadian songwriters and is absolutely a national treasure."[1]

I'll go with Tom Cochrane. (The "Vision Quest" movie got me hooked on the song "Lunatic Fringe")

I'm a big Cochrane fan back to do the days of Red Rider. The Light in the Tunnel/Power combo is a great pairing, I'd say up there with Black Magic Woman/Oye Como Va. I also really like his voice.

Gordon's a great folk writer, but I'll go with the rocker.

Of course when it comes to Canadian singer songwriters, Neil and Joni rule.
