Would they all work well for a grunge/alternative sound, DarkSide? Also, I guess I'll just keep my eyes open for a great deal. The Hard Rock Cafe in New York City has a Strat and amp (with a whole load of effects) combo for $450...

Yeah, they all can play Grunge. They also had a good softer sound and a good heavier sound. These are some of the guitars that are good, all under $400:

    Fender Standard Strat
    Fender Standard HSS Strat
    Squier Classic Vibe Duo-Sonic 50's
    Squier Jagmaster
    Squier Vintage Modified HSS Strat

Dude, those are awesome!!! I'm most likely gonna get one of those. Sadly, I'm not gonna be able to buy a guitar 'til I've been playin' for over 6 months, so say my parents. I'm gonna save those.

I got it originaly because it is great for blues. But playing punk is just as good

as you can see from my pic that I had an Ibanez (Survived a Car crash) that i joe strummered out with stickers from the artist shepard Fairley

Really just go with whatever style you want its not like the old days when the guitar was important really anything you have these days can match tones. So I say go with what feels best in your hands

I think mine is a C neck Im not sure
