Drummer Battle: Neil Peart vs. Keith Moon vs. John Bonham

Meh, in my opinion Peart overplays a bit. He's totally impressive, and Moon is awesome because he could play like Animal and still make it sound good, but Bonham is rock-steady. There's something to be said for keeping the beat even when you know you can do crazy fills all the time. He definitely had the talent Peart does, but he had restraint too.

I honestly love all three. This was a very tough choice. Bonham was great for his music, and his beats drove many of the Zep songs. Moon was a total badass, and a lot of stuff is amazing.
But Neil Peart is awesome. His fills are incredible, he's technically proficient, and it doesn't hurt that he's still alive. My vote goes to Peart.

moon by far his drumming makes songs really interesting... and i also don't like rush at all so it may be a little bias but pert doesn't seem to add the same life to a song that moon does.

Both Peart and Moon have quite a few songs in Rock Band while Bonham has none, and this is a Rock Band forum.

So I voted Bonham, that's not why though.

I had to vote for Peart as his style is just incredible, with excellent fills, and I saw him live 2 weeks ago which was totally awesome.
Moon was just too crazy for my taste, and although I like Bonham's drumming it just isn't prominent enough compared to Rush.
On another note, drumming fans should check out Brann Dailor, from Mastodon. His style is as fluent as Peart's but still has elements of the other two, and although the rest of the music is pretty different from those bands the drumming is superb.

All true, but if you're serious in your voting you've probably listened to quite a few songs by each drummer. If you haven't you can't really argue why you think one drummer is better than the other.

Anyway, I voted tie Moon/Peart. Both Moon and Peart are very prominent in their drumming (as said before) and you can't help but listen to the drums when hearing one of their songs. I don't get that feeling with any of Bonham's songs. You could argue that it is because Bonham has restraint and doesn't overplay, but restraint isn't what I'm looking for in a drummer.

This is really a tough choice for me. It seems that each of the three is the best at what they do. I ultimately had to vote a Moon/Peart tie.

Neil Peart is so tight and mechanically precise with his drumming, he really seems like a machine. I had the good fortune to see Rush last August (by the way, if you're a musician, or even if you're just a serious fan of rock, GO SEE RUSH), and they all blew me away, but especially Neil. I saw that man use both hands to mute a cymbal and then immediately continue soloing. It wasn't even noticeable in any way except that I saw it. That's just ridiculous and excessive, but i love it.

On the other hand, Kieth Moon took the drums and basically made them the third lead instrument in the Who. What's amazing about that is that he did it in a way that fit every song he did it in. He wasn't drowning out everything else that was going on, he was perfectly complementing it.

While my personal preference goes to Moon, for the sake of objectivity, i had to go with both of them.

By the way, to be fair to Bonham, he's the one i would have most liked to have playing behind me. With Moon and Peart, there's a lot (A LOT) of responsibility on the bassist to hold everything together. Whereas Bonham's reasonable but groovy drumming would be very easy to keep with and complement.
