Sonny is one of the most inventive guitarists of all time. The stuff he does with a slide guitar is mind boggling. Roy was very influential -- his heavy use of pinch harmonics and clean tone set a standard that Clapton and Beck in particular picked up on immediately. But you know what -- that tone that Clapton had on Derek and the Dominoes is my least favorite tone of all the ones he's played with over the years. So for me, this is clear cut: Sonny is one of the very best slide players of all time. He gets my vote.

God! If you're going to do a battle, have more than two people in the poll. It takes up so much forum space and I have tons of trouble finding the threads that I want to read!

That Sonny Landreth stuff is pretty amazing, but I have to go with Roy Buchanan. I've listened to him for years, and he really blows my mind. But Sonny, wow. That is some sick slide.
