David Howell Evans (born 8 August 1961 in Barking, East London, UK), more widely known by his moniker The Edge, is a musician known best as the guitarist, keyboardist, and main backing vocalist for the Irish rock band U2. His distinctive electric guitar timbre and percussive style of playing, along with his innovative use of digital sound processing — delay in particular — have been instrumental in defining U2's unique sound. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine named The Edge #24 on their list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".[1]

Easiest poll ever. Howe is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, and I don't think The Edge is honestly that great.

This is a tough choices. Being the U2 fan, I would say the Edge. A lot of people aren't impressed by him as a guitarist, but what they don't understand is that he prefers an understated style. Like David Gilmour, he views notes as "expensive" and tries to get the most out of the few notes he plays. The Edge can play a pretty killer solo when he gets a little more intricate:

The Edge, though he doesn't approach the most technically skilled guitarists, is definitely one of the masters of emotional guitar playing. No one can make a guitar talk, laugh, cry, and scream like the Edge. He can say more in a single bar than most guitarists can put into an entire song.
