Things I learned from Rock Band! (and other appreciations)

Yea, our time is coming to an end. With Rock Band 2 on the horizon for the 360ers, we will more than likely not be on the forums as much for about a month, so let us rejoice in what we have learned from the History of Rock forum, other places in the Rock Band forum, or the game itself.

    This includes:
    information
    new songs/bands you appreciate
    cool ideas
    good friends you've made

well, I'll get this ball rolling with:
I've learned so much from this game and its forums. Specifically from this forums, with the cool concert stories, information on bands I had never heard before, and even finding out about some cool bands (mostly via the AWESOME blog).

So I would like to thank these people (and yes, i will more than likely add to this later b/c I KNOW I will forget lots of people):
    xfindax (my gf, of course)
    OldFogey
    HMXDungHeaver
    Shredder87
    JukeBoxHero
    afterstasis
    AxlVanHagar

    WhiffleBallTony
    Sayburr
    WingsofSteel
    BhindBluEyes430
    NextJimmyPage

thanks everyone!! glad to have met all of you, can't wait to see what others have learned due to these forums and such!

Right back atcha, Schiz. I've had tons of fun here - picked up a lot. Got some great music referrals from multiple folks, but esp. Axl. It's been a blast, even when I had to explain why Hendrix is not overrated, or why it matters when you are talking about who's a great singer whether or not they destroyed their voices with oversinging.....

Great list, too, but i'll give props to Julio and RockBandFan for their enthusiasm and work.

The big miss on your list that comes right to my mind is Orange_Black.

Wonder what ever happened to MisterSchulz -- he was really good, too.

I really owe it to this site for my appreciation for all music. I came here with the usual "Dragonforce? More like DraGAYnforce lulz" attitude and really just straight-up insulted people's music tastes if I disliked them. Anyone who saw my initial posts would know that, hehe. Thanks to being around here long enough, though, I've learned to appreciate every band and, if I don't like them, it's my own opinion which only applies to me.

I've also been learning a lot of new bands, some from the blogs, some from random chatter and talk of music here has not only revitalized my interest in it, but also in all aspects of it. I've been looking further into genres and subgenres I may normally not have.

I can't think of who to thank in particular, but everyone's been helpful, especially everyone who's been contributing to the blog. Afterstasis in particular has been great with updating is more frequently tan any of us with many great and diverse compilations. I guess if there was a list, though, Schizoid's with OldFogey's additions about sums it up. Everyone's been great whether contributing to the blog or contributing awesome stories or even their great musical opinions and insights.

Edit: I'll also add Ultimatum to the list, even though he doesn't post here as often.

    Say what

For the record, your part of the reason I started getting into a lot of Progressive bands.

Really, this forum has inspired me to attempt to branch out musically. It went from being simple background music to being a hobby that takes up almost all of my time.

    !
Well I for one still plan on posting quite regularly. Too much of my daily routine at this point. I think I check it at least 4-5 times a day.

The game itself has got me into a few bands I didn't know at all or well.

Bang Camaro, Vagiant, Black Tide, Flyleaf are just a few.

The forums have also intorduced me to some other bands such as the White Stripes and made me remember how much I love bands i havne't listened to in years like The Yardbirds, Cream, Hendrix, The Sweet, T-Rex etc. My CD collection has grown quite a bit in the last year. I have bought quite a few CD's either from the forum or the game itself.

The game has also got me screwing around on my guitar again. First time I've touched it other than to dust it in well over 6 years. Yesterday i went back to the music store I used to shop at all the time, probably been about 12 years since I've set foot in there. Bought myself a Squire Affinity Jazz Bass Guitar with a little prcatice amp. I see a drum set in the not too distant future as well.

Most of all the forums have introduced me to a lot of really cool people. schiz's list with add ons from Fogey and a couple of others pretty much sums it up. I think Ozzy said it best when he said..

Yeah this forum has been great, I've never thought I was wasting my time viewing this forum like I do.

    Things I now appreciate:
Bands such as Twisted Sister, Alice Cooper(group), Atheist Spiral Architect, Camel, and other great bands. All introduce with excellent song choices(Halo of Flies, Burn in Hell, ect).

Information on various things that you guys know, l learned a lot in this forum since February.

Cool time posting and discussing with everyone here for the most part.

The game DLC also introduce some interesting bands I haven't heard of before like Locksley, The Mother Hips, The New Pornographers. I also got a nice insight on groups like The Grateful Dead and Evile by playing their songs.
I wish to be a magician of words!

I've learned a lot about music in general from this forum. The 1HW thread got me into some older music. I went through and downloaded every song that was in the 1HW threads and then put it in a playlist on my zune. I actually liked Rhythm of the Rain so much that I learned it on guitar so that I could play/sing along to it. I also found some good post-rock bands from a suggestion from a guy a while ago (I forgot his sn, but many thanks to you if you remember me). And then Rock Band itself has gotten me into some really great bands (Black Tide, Bang Camaro, and a bunch more + the ones I have forgotten). And Harmonix got me more interested in some bands. For example, I used to have 1 Grateful Dead cd before rockband, and now I have 6.

Whether it be trivia, new bands, concert stories, or information about styles of music, I have learned a lot from the history of rock forum. Even though I don't post as much as I used to, I usually creep around here several times a day to see if anything sparks my interest.

Hungryfreak, Fogey, and AVH definitely deserve to be on there. I learned a lot of stuff from them reading their posts here and got into many bands, same with A21.

I'd like to thank everyone who posts in the HoR forum for lowering my blood pressure after a depressing day of school.

Thank you OldFogey, a21, Hungryfreak, Axl, polishdog and afterstasis for opening up my musical tastes wider than Paris Hilton's vag (very big). Thank you to Rockbandfan and everyone who voted in the BotBs for giving me something to do on a boring summer day.

And most of all, thank you to the awesome staff members of this board! Thank you for making an awesome game and community to discuss it.
