Youtube tip

I found out that if you append "&fmt=18" to the end of a youtube url, you get stereo sound. I've been using it on my youtube vids for a while. And it seems like it does really make a difference. This is a supported feature of youtube:

To compare you can check out these two different versions of a clip from a DVD where Eddie Vedder does a cover of the Who's A Quick One with My Morning Jacket.

First the normal quality version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFdGDlZcHmo

Then the one with the tag:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFdGDlZcHmo&fmt=18

Since we post so many vids in this forum I thought this tip might be helpful.

Yeah it's drag that there's not an easier way to do it.

I had a Firefox addon called Better YouTube that would do this automatically, but it no longer works with YT's newer layout.

If you have a youtube account, you can make this automatic. Go to My Account, then click "Video Playback Quality". You can set it so that it will always play high quality videos. This is great for audiophiles who also look up a bunch of music on youtube, like me.
