    Prog Epics

Well, there is an obvious trend among prog bands to have epic 20 min+ songs among their discography. Which prog epics do you know of? What do you think about them Etc...

The only ones I have are a bit obvious (kind of why I made this thread;to find more):

"Thick as a Brick" - Jethro Tull
    "2112" - Rush
"Tarkus" - Emerson, Lake and Palmer

I've really been digging them lately, especially Tarkus (which I've played at least 3-4 times this week). I just love watching them flow in all sorts of wild directions (Thick as a Brick does this best) and the non-stop prog drums kick tons of ass as well.

It would be awesome to see the entirety of Thick as a Brick released as Rock Band DLC, haha.

Not all here are prog, but the songs are long and that's what counts most right? These four off the top of my head are the album titles, which either consist of one track or one song split into separate tracks.

    Edge Of Sanity - Crimson
Edge Of Sanity - Crimson II
Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade Of Grey
Green Carnation - Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness

And now just a list of songs that I can think of without researching (because I like being lazy lol) that are around 20 minutes or longer.

Symphony X - The Divine Wings Of Tragedy
    Symphony X - The Odyssey
Dream Theater - A Change Of Seasons
Dream Theater - Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
    Dream Theater - Octavarium
    Andromeda - Veil Of Illumination
    Iced Earth - Gettysburg (1863)
Iced Earth - The Suffering Trilogy*
Iced Earth - Something Wicked Trilogy*
X Japan - Art Of Life
Manowar - Achilles, Agony And Ecstasy In Eight Parts
Venom - At War With Satan
Rhapsody (Of Fire) - Gargoyles, Angels Of Darkness
    Opeth - Black Rose Immortal
The Mars Volta - Cassandra Geminni
Coheed And Cambria - The Willing Well*
Coheed And Cambria - The End Complete*
    Shadow Gallery - Ghost Ship
    Shadow Gallery - First Light
    Shadow Gallery - Floydian Memories
    Spock's Beard - The Water
Spock's Beard - The Healing Colors Of Sound*
Spock's Beard - The Great Nothing
    Spock's Beard - A Guy Named Sid
Spock's Beard - A Flash Before My Eyes
Spock's Beard - As Far As The Mind Can See
Transatlantic - All Of The Above
Transatlantic - Duel With The Devil
Transatlantic - Stranger In Your Soul

*Not sure if these are considered one song or just a grouping of songs on a similar theme, but when I put them on my computer I combine them because length always wins.

I'm only talking about prog. I know many, many long non-prog songs already. Prog epics are just a staple of the genre, which is essentially what this thread is about.

Prog rock? Prog metal? All of my list except for Manowar, Iced Earth, Venom and Rhapsody Of Fire have been labeled as some form of prog in one way, shape or another.

Any prog is fine, just not non-prog. What I mean by epics are really songs that are the album, the main attraction and the title feature. You do have a good list there, yes, and I did notice the prog, but non-prog songs can't be considered prog epics obviously.

Spock's Beard - The Water (on the album The Light). 20+ minutes, tells the story of a man from birth to death. Really nifty song.
4 singles - 2 I'll get (Queensryche and one Staind).

The first one that popped in my head was This Strange Engine by Marillion, but that's only 16 minutes.
    My List:
Flower Kings - The Truth Will Set You Free
Flower Kings - Garden Of Dreams
    Frost* - Milliontown
Porcupine Tree - The Sky Moves Sideways
    Magma - Kohntarkosz 2
    Devil Doll - Sacrilegium

I also usually consider Marillion's Misplaced Childhood to only have two songs, like Fish suggested: Side 1 and Side 2. Neither side is over 30 minutes though. Some of the songs on this list are longer than the entire album.
Does anyone chart anymore? le sigh.

Well schizoid hit most of them, but I would throw in Rush's Cygnus X-1 + Hemispheres (aka Cygnus X-1 Book 2), as well as The Fountain of Lamneth, once again by Rush.
