True enough. It's closer to diet-hard rock, I guess. We'll have a name for it once the movement is over, I'm sure.

that's my point, he seemed to be bringing it up as an example of a "post" genre that didn't go past the point of recognition from it's predecessor.

Consider music genres are classifications based on MUSIC and MUSIC alone. Yeah, they are NEVER determinative of genres. They are often associative and linked due to movements and similar themes, but they never define the genre.

Lyrics NEVER define genres. If you can name me one genre that's defined by lyrics then I'll definitely bring up an example of some songs in that genre with lyrics that don't fit in with those themes.
Would you pay for music by Beck?
    Maybe.
What if you heard he owned a plane made of gold?
    Sure.
Good, because he needs the money.

The whole point of post is to ascend past the original concept of the genre it is prefixing. Most of the time it's an artistic way and truly does surpass the original concept of the genre where it's become it's unique field of music. I'm not talking about a rock genre evolving into metal, either.

    True ascension.

Wasn't grunge as a whole always defined by it's lyrics? The whole teen angst thing? Hair metal by it's focus on girls over fantasy? Death metal by it's focus on death? Punk by it's focus on anti-establishment attitudes?

Take away the vocals from a Linkin Park track and a Slipknot track and they sound like the same band.

You'd probably have to remove the DJ elements from Linkin Park as well.

Nah, Slipknot has had a DJ from inception to present day.

Same vids I linked yesterday as reference, none from same album.
