    Early DM was borderline Thrash, but was characterized by a much harsher vocal style and dirtier production. Later DM went on to be characterized by blasting and so on.

    And then literally tens of thousands of people starting adding death metal to their music, creating lots of genres...

    Brutal death metal, Grindcore, Melodic death metal, Technical death metal, Progressive death metal, Blackened death metal, Goregrind, Deathcore, etc... I know Im missing a few.

    The 90's were quite possibly the best time for Death Metal.

    In what other era could we get At the Gates, Eucharist, Incantation, Amorphis, Cynic, Atheist, Gorguts, and possibly a dozen other amazing bands all in one?

    Not to knock Seven Churches too much, but while it was the first Death Metal full-length I thought it was kind of bland compared to their Death/Thrash contemporaries, Morbid Saint most notably.
