Comparing the new Linkin Park album to Kid A is just wrong in so many different ways I wanna eat my own hand.
Good thing MTV doesn't actually have any more credibility to lose nowadays.

Awesome quote about literature that I think applies equally well to music. I think it's a good reason why safe, generic mainstream bands get a lot of intense, even irrational hatred from huge music addicts; those bands don't make an effort to leave an impression on the listener, or as Kafka puts it, to wake them up with a blow to the head. Of course, the quote's original meaning is about how he feels the best books are the sad, angsty books, but a similar concept can be applied to music, methinks.

That said, in the same way that some books/comics can be a few hours of stupid fun, the same can be said about music.
That's up there as one of my favorite quotes now.

is there anything less interesting than every musician in the world wanting to use boring recordings of their children babbling or laughing in their music?

I actually can't think of a single artist who actually does that. Examples?

RO: I'm not exaggerating when I say Black Unity by Pharaoh Sanders has one of the best bass lines ever.

Well, Swans open White Light with it, but I don't mind that. Can't think of others, though.
