I think that the hippie movement, along with tons of other movements/generations before and after, started out with a fairly clear objective and a philosophy that at least had a basis in some form of logic. Maybe there's a bit of idealism involved which doesn't really help anything, but it doesn't really hurt, either. Eventually, this movement/generation gets some publicity, and starts to attract people who really don't understand the philosophy, but just want to take part because it's the "in" thing to do, usually leading to the movement/generation becoming a mockery of itself. I guess what I'm trying to say is that your teacher probably wasn't involved in hippie-dom until the Summer of Love started.

I just don't understand how a member of a generation who sat back and smoked and ****ed all the time can in the next breath say we don't know **** about **** when it comes to actually fixing the world. I've always had that issue, but it drives it home even better when the person is proud of being an apathetic douchebag.

Typical Boomer Elitism at it's most triumphant example right there. As a 30 year old settled in the X'er/Millie Grey area as far as generations go, I just sit back and go "whatever" to this Baby Boomer Hypocrite BS.

Probably because they're too busy trying to avoid all the stalkers who follow them around and expect them to feed an entire family of 6 while chaining themselves to a tree next to a recycling center. I know that would be enough for me to slap the **** out of anyone who expects me to behave a certain way just because of the car I drive. No one ever posts "He's driving a Ford F-150! Why is there no confederate flag and gun rack?! What a poser!"

(ps, no I don't drive a prius, although I'm buying a car in the next few weeks and am seriously eyeing a used one. And no, it's not because I give a ****, it's because gas is 5 dollars a gallon.)

yeah 50MPG is heavenly now a days, especially if you don't drive much, you only have to fill up once every 4 weeks

Although most of the high-MPG cars also have smaller gas tanks... almost no matter what vehicle you get around here, they're good for about 400 miles per tank on the highway. At least with the more efficient cars you're not paying as much to fill up, then.
