Totally agreed. Thing is, being the worlds biggest troll doesn't do anything to increase my respect for her. It only diminishes it.

True. I just find it funny though. I also think her duet with Alice Cooper qualifies as a guilty pleasure.

Of all the popular "diva pop" artists out there today, La Roux is the only one I like.

Not sure I'd say "like", but La Roux is probably my preferred option in that category.

RO: I find Ke$ha a better declaration than the Ramones ever were that anyone can make music. If she can do it... I have a hard time believing there's someone out there who couldn't.

Random hint: The two statements in this post are quite related.
Weirdly enough, I'm the opposite. Dumb lyrics are at least amusing and they can be stupidly clever at times; pseudo-intellectual BS, however, is derivative, contrived, and seppuku-inducing.

As for the "diva pop" discussion, my favorite's Lily Allen.

Haven't listened to her much at all, but I quite enjoy Bulletproof and In For The Kill.

I do agree there are a few clunkers in her album. "Tigerlily" however is a great non-single and it's got this synth hook where it's hard to explain, like small waves of glass. I appreciate the faux 80s approach in the album overall though.

Plus I love "Bulletproof", I just don't know why.

    There's a reason I don't particularly enjoy Andrew W.K.

Sometimes it can be difficult to spot the line, though, between quasi-intellectual bullsh*t and truly intellectual lyrics. I've never really been a fan of the "anti-intellectual" movement that has run through popular music since its inception. At the same time, however, I'm not exactly a prog purist; lord knows I enjoy me some stupid, slightly self-indulgent new-wave and 80's pop.

I've never spotted anything particularly profound in any of Incubus' lyrics, though. But hey, at least he's trying, unlike the guys who have no problem writing profoundly stupid lyrics

Oh, and Runesmith, while I have your attention... I noticed you said in another thread that you'd say Rock Band 3 is your #2 favorite video game. It would be very high up for me too. Out of pure curiosity, what's your #1?

it's enjoyable, though i still think their best was his most recent, Kiss Each Other Clean is his best, and The Shepherd's Dog is the 2nd best

I prefer more intelligent lyrical content over moronic lyrical content. hen again, I also prefer musicianship and bands making songs for the art rather than the money.

Wasn't the song "Pardon Me" about him lighting his farts on fire, only to fail and burn himself?
