Modern gaming definitely isn't poop, but there was a definite shift in mainstream gaming values sometime around the early/mid 2000s, with sequels, big budget production values, and graphics becoming more important than before - sometimes at the expense of character development/narrative. I've noticed that the mainstream gaming establishment has grown to mirror mainstream Hollywood more and more with each passing year as games have proven so lucrative in modern times.

my main problem with modern gaming is the shift towards multiplayer being so important while almost completely ignoring single-player and making it an afterthought at this point

I've never been into Multiplayer. Except with TF classic and TF2 for a while.
It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now.

I had my call of duty phase but yeah now the only multiplayer game I play regularly is Rock Band of course.

Also I started Far Cry 3 tonight. It is looking pretty great so far.

Multiplayer's really all I care very much about in gaming.
AI doesn't cut it, and exceptional teamwork and competition are two of the few particularly rewarding features in video games for me.

It still needs work, but Planetside 2 is gradually overtaking the other 2012 games I've mentioned recently.

I might do one, not sure. Haven't listened to anywhere near as much as I did in 2011, and haven't liked anywhere near as much.
