The jazz stuff is pretty accessible, in my opinion as a seasoned jazz listener of course. :P They're pretty much standard fare as far as jazz goes. As long as you have an appreciation for the music, it shouldn't be too hard. (but I guess that goes for everything, right?)
Would you pay for music by Beck?
    Maybe.
What if you heard he owned a plane made of gold?
    Sure.
Good, because he needs the money.

I've drank maybe three times in my life... I'm not really sure. However many times it is, I blacked out each and every time.

RF: Never fully trust Wikipedia 100% (Common Sense). I read that Tantric's new album will be sold exclusively through Arby's Stores (The Fast-Food Restaurant) Yet I seen a few copies at Best-Buy today. The stupid part, is where that Said that at on Wikipedia, it came from another source. That source came said the same thing pretty much. Ugh!

Why would people say that if it's not even true. WHY?

I can definitely appreciate the music technically, I'm just worried about how long it'll take before I get the emotional side of it (which is where just about all of my enjoyment of music comes into play). It's just very different from what I usually listen to by myself.

that's rough... i still remember my first three nights getting drunk, and they were about ten years ago.

the only time i've ever had any real trouble is when i was drinking everclear and gin mixed with the flavoring syrup they use in slushies...
i had alcohol poisoning and barfed all day... it sucked bad, but it led me to trying pot for the first time, so all that hurling wasn't for nothing.

Sorry... I couldn't resist. I just saw that movie for the first time and I've got it stuck in my head.

That's true, I suppose, but the majority of the stuff I recommended is pretty catchy and easy to get into even for the jazz newbie, especially Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. It's not like I recommended you some super avant-garde free jazz or something.

though perhaps it would be wise for him to check some out soon...
i honestly feel more of an emotional connection to stuff like "machine gun" or "universal consciousness" than any other jazz.

(I hope no one cares about my random opinion here, but that's the name of the thread)

I really like heavy metal (I'm in a thrash metal phase at the moment, actually) but I can't stand Death Metal. Worst of all, CHRISTIAN Death Metal. It's too contradictory, to be honest. And I enjoy the occasional screaming, but I just don't get the "belching" sound some bands acheive. It all sounds the same to me: like crap. I respect the muscians because they are muscians, but I still don't like it.

I love free jazz, but I can't see it being too appealing to the average first time listener. Hell, it took me at least ten listens each to fully appreciate each of the albums you listed. Even still, I prefer more "traditional" jazz to free jazz by a large margin.

Oh, and to the above post, I hope you've braced yourself for a ****storm.
