Has anyone heard of The Answer? They're new, debut just came out on the 10th. I haven't really listened to them much, but they're like a mix of Foo Fighters and AC/DC (Zeppelin thrown in on the side). Pretty good stuff from what I've heard so far. They sound like a good candidate to carry the 70's Renaissance since Wolfmother broke-up.

When you have a lot of bands making the same type of music and all getting popular at the same time they will all try to make their own signature sound. That doesnt stop numetal from being a genre. Nu-, afterall, is synonymous with post- in generality when in conjecture with musical genres. Look all the crazy differences between post-hardcore, post-thrash, nu-prog, and post-punk bands.
I see Nu-Prog as a movement moreso than its own genre.

What other term is good for bands who mix alternative rock elements with progressive rock elements?

I'd call them either prog or alternative depending on their tendencies.
Would you pay for music by Beck?
    Maybe.
What if you heard he owned a plane made of gold?
    Sure.
Good, because he needs the money.
