There was actually something I read awhile ago that listed how a lot of superheroes who have become pop culture icons aren't entirely original. The most notable one was Batman being basically a modern Zorro. Superman was also very similar to an old novel that I can't recall the name of.

I would argue that a lot of original ideas take influence from older ideas, though. Happens all the time. People are way too quick to accuse something of being a "rip off", some times, IMO.

Superman is a direct Hercules influence, don't you see it?

Yeah, Hercules was definitely one of them, though there was something else cited that I can't quite remember...

My high school econ teacher had hair like Morrissey. And he had a Moz poster, too. People would write Smiths lyrics on his white board. One time, he even gave someone bonus points for wearing a Depeche Mode shirt. Yeah, he was a real cool cat.

I know what you're talking about. It's a graphic novel with a character with basically the same flaws and strengths, but magnified slightly and less idealistic.

Batman is basically Zorro as well, the writers even nod to that fact with Bruce Wayne's parents being murdered after a Zorro film and having the film serve as Bruce's inspiration.
