I've heard a lot of comparisons between their early material (primarily TWWSWD) and Lightning Bolt. The only other album I've heard of theirs is Sisterworld, which disappointed me at the time, but anything could happen, I imagine. I turned around my opinion of Titus Andronicus (whether HoR approves is another discussion altogether ) so why not Liars?

EDIT: Elaborating on Lightning Bolt, I watched their performance at Pitchfork Music Festival, and it completely kicked my ass from a thousand miles away, so I downloaded their discog and just couldn't get the same feeling from their first two albums, so I gave up. Did I stop before it gets good or am I just expecting too much thinking something going into my ears while I'm doing other things is going to give the same rush as watching their drummer do the musical equivalent of shooting fire out of his eyes while I hear it?

it doesn't really sound like lightning bolt, but i guess both were noisy rock bands that were simultaneously getting more popular than anyone expected at the time

the album basically bridges their previous post-punk stuff on downers so it sounds more like a sludge band at times.
i was really disappointed with all three of the following albums, but at least they still make cool music videos. haha

I really want to pick up bass, but I don't actually have a bass guitar on hand, haha.

I have another unrelated question. College and record players: do they mix? I want to bring mine up, but I'm not sure how good of a combination it might be.

I have a bass, but my practice amp died on me. Apparently the Behringer amp I bought is a gigantic piece of ****, and I didn't know that ahead of time.

    Live and learn, I guess...

So, The Final Frontier is out. Can't decide if I want to steal it or go ahead and drop some real bones for the CD.

That being said, do that many big bands anymore go to Detroit, apart from some of the older acts (If I were in a band, I'd question my sanity if I were playing Detroit, to be honest)? Most of time for tours Michigan just gets bypassed completely...

But yeah, since almost nobody comes to Kalamazoo (still kicking myself over not seeing Russian Circles here, though...), Grand Rapids is the next-best choice.

Detroit has some kick ass venues, though. The Fillmore is amazing. When i saw SSPU,Brian couldn't stop talking about how cool it was,and how cool it was to play in detroit.

The problem isn't the kick-ass venues, the problem is that Detroit is far from a kick-ass city.
