That's an odd perspective. I guess some art just isn't very good.

Something tells me, however, that Al-Qaeda are anything but an art club, and had anything but creating a work of art in mind.

As morbid and twisted as that perspective is, I have to say I somewhat agree with him. Moments like that go down in history, but choosing the path of a musician is choosing a path that would forever doom you to a footnote at best.
Despite all my rage, I'm still just Nicolas Cage

Very true, although I do think music is a huge part of our culture. Beethoven and Mozart, for example, will likely be remembered forever. Bands like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin have reached a level of popularity to be included in many history textbooks (at least mine ). Similarly, for film, some really do go down in history.

Of course, as melancholy as the thought is, it's impossible to believe that a musician could have the impact that people like Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Martin Luther, Isaac Newton, or even other artists like Leonardo Da Vinci have had.

But all they get is a mention at best. People generally don't care about the history or the motivations behind those people, or at least that seems to be the way the books handle it.

Would you pay for music by Beck?
    Maybe.
What if you heard he owned a plane made of gold?
    Sure.
Good, because he needs the money.

I just think valuing the idea of art and having little to no regard for the human tragedy is a deeply disturbing perspective to take.

Just start a born again christian band, sing about loving Jesus and all of that ****. When you get a couple albums under your belt, a huge built in audience and enough money for a lifetime, switch up to black metal and release an album with at least an average of 20 SPM (Satans Per Minute).
