The Mountain Goats was simply amazing live. The opening band was also pretty awesome, I have never seen rappers rap with a lo fi/alt rock band as a backing band. The opening band(Wckr Spgt) was also really good and...interesting, and since they were friends of John Darnielle for the last song they had John came out and sang and danced with them. When John finally came out he immediately started playing Broom People. His energy live is pretty damn good for a solo indie folk artist, and he looks pretty damn sexy live. His stage banter is also hilarious and awesome. He mostly played material off Sunset Tree and Tallahassee, with some off the new album and a few really old ones I was not familiar with. He "closed" with This Year then came out for an encore of See America Right, You or Your Memory, and then TBEDMBOoD, which was awesome to hear and sing live. Best concert I have been to in terms of the actual performance and bands, but I still think Cap'n Jazz was better in terms of atmosphere.

The Mountain Goats still rule live, even if they don't play a lot of the old classics often anymore.
I wish I could go see The Mountain Goats, but as far as I know John's not playing in NY soon. I think The Extra Lens played last month, but it was 21+.
Did get a ticket to both Gang of Four and Interpol, though.
Y'know who should be talked about a lot more often here? John Waters.
