Animal Farm is a really great book. I always wondered what happened to Snowball...

Well, if we're going to be strictly allegorical, he gets assassinated in Mexico, but the fact that it isn't mentioned in the book has some significance, if you ask me. Most of the animals, with the possible exception of a few pigs, wouldn't have known what happened to Snowball (let along remember Snowball existed, had Napoleon had his way).

A lot of the animals had bad memories though so I don't know how well they could have remembered him, aside from all the criticism that Napoleon directed at Snowball. But it seems like to me that Snowball might have escaped because once Napoleon turned public opinion against him, he might of just said Snowball was no more or something, but he always tried to demonize him whenever he could, as if he was being cautions in case Snowball returned. But of course that's different from what actually happened to Trotsky.

Well, yes, it was definitely different. Napoleon's response to the perceived threat of Snowball was almost identical to Stalin's reaction to Trotskyists still left in the USSR, though. I suppose that is the bigger issue, though speculating on Snowball's fate is certainly interesting.
