(As far as I can tell, the band hAND coined the term "prog goth", but they're a rather disappointing act. Not that they're necessarily bad, it's just that they could be so much better and aren't.)

I've never heard of hAND before, but I'm working through Deadroom Journal now, and I agree with you. They obviously have a lot of talent, but they really under-utilize songcraft in favor of showing off. Seems like the only goth elements come through vocally.

Just heard that Steeve Hurdle, the guy behind many of the more dissonant guitar parts and riffs on Gorguts' Obscura passed away recently. Sad news, indeed.

I'd say it's been even longer as Coldplay's really just a pop band; not since the Death Cab For Cutie single like, two years ago.
