Just heard their new album and I might probably listen to it more to see how well it sinks in.

A couple of stand-outs ("Skin Graph", "The Pit") but so far it's their weakest album.

I've been streaming it and I'm still going to buy it tomorrow, but I agree it definitely does not hold up to the last 3. I think there are too many mid-tempo songs that all sound alike.

I've been enjoying the new album. It is hard to compare to the others -- very different, more creative, the songs typically have several movements that differ in tone quite a bit from each other... it's like prog and post-grunge had a baby.

Definitely some great standouts, though -- actually I think "Bloody Mary", the first single, is one of the worst songs on the album. (I guess the melody is more pop-friendly? It does tend to stick in your head)

    My favorites are:

    Busy Bees
    The Pit
    Out of Breath
    Make Believe
    Skin Graph

Really, the whole album is great, but a lot of the songs start slow and take about 2 minutes to build, so it takes some patience if you're more into hard alt-rock.

All of the above songs would make fantastic RB songs, of course! But I'll buy anything HMX releases. And still wishing we had The Royal We!

Oh and most importantly, this is an album you cannot judge based by streaming it on your computer speakers. These songs are heavily nuanced with lots of dynamics changes. There is a lot going on under the melody. I was not impressed when listening to it off the PC, but the album on good speakers is a whole different experience.

I'm definitely feeling the prog effort here as well. I remember last year, SSPU's twitter mentioned that they couldn't help but record some super long songs, but they all came out great.

I was also put off by Bloody Mary, but the rest is awesome, notably Simmer, Busy Bees, and Make Believe.
AsianSteev: if you can read this, put more Ska songs on the RBN! Please?
