The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I watched the extended edition of the original Swedish version on Netflix. 7.5/10.

Saw Battleship on a whim today. I suppose in terms of mindless action movies it was okay, even though the impressive bits were less to do with the action and more to do with the extraneous stuff.

The tie to the board game is tenuous at best, no surprises there. The film tries to juggle about three conflicts at once and never paces any of them right, leaving some lulls in the action until the closing moments of the film. But the explosions are really good.

No, the best parts of the film are moments like Barack Obama himself coming on screen for one line, or the excellent use of the Pink Panther theme song during an admittedly hilarious slapstick scene, or Interstate Love Song being one of the first songs just because Interstate Love Song is one of the greatest things to come out of the 90s.

Also, Rihanna isn't one of the worst musicians-turned-actors but she still wasn't great. She was capable of showing emotion, but it was all in extremes, and by this point you just can't shake her image of a pop star.

Overall, okayish and worth my money, but I wouldn't see it again. 5.5/10

EDIT: Something else worth noting: the aliens were in suits ripped straight from Mass Effect and Dead Space 2, and the heavy aliens were in the ones from Starcraft 2. So that was laem.

Does Liam Neeson say, "You sank my battleship!" at any point in the movie?

No, no one does. Liam Neeson is barely in it.

No one says, "You sank my battleship!"? Well that's all kinds of disappointing. Still, it has Tim Riggins and Landry Clarke and Brooklyn Decker's boobs, so I will rent it at least. Maybe catch a matinee, as it seems like it would be better (i.e. less sucky) on the big screen.

Stargate. 7¼/10. It gets an extra ¼ point for being a Roland Emmerich film that isn't completely craptastic.

I was wondering why it's called Battleship when no modern navy in the world still uses battleships.

I'm guessing it the same reason the new Karate Kid was called The Karate Kid even though only Kung Fu is used in the movie. Hollywood is stupid.

That's kind of a plot point, actually.

That's what the film is based on.

I wish there was a joke there but it's true.
