Yeah I did that too. But I don't have a wife. But yeah. Prometheus. yay!

Prometheus was enjoyable. I know some people were a little let down from the over-hype, and a couple of the characters experience Slasher Movie Stupidity Syndrome. However, this movie is dangerously close to converting me to a 3D believer, in that it is used effectively without being in-your-face about the fact that it's in 3D.

And that's all you're getting out of me.

That's all I want. I've been avoiding all the reviews, I want everything to be surprise. Good to hear about the 3D though, I may break down and see this one in it.

Do it. This is one case in which the extra dough is merited at least once. (My mind is melting at the idea of watching it in IMAX 3D, which I probably would have done had we any IMAX theaters in town.)

If Avatar wasn't enough to get you to realize that 3D can be used properly and suitably....then I'm really curious to see this new movie you're talking about

I consider Avatar an exception, seeing as the 3D technology people use nowadays was designed to make the freakin' movie, but even that had a lot of "in your face" shots (see: the opening shot of zero-G water beadlets passing over whatsisface's eyes). Here it's used more for atmospheric framing. Since parts of it take place on an otherwise desolated planet, the 3D adds to the vastness that you don't otherwise get from a flat screen.

Basically: most of the time people use 3D to get things really CLOSE to you. Here, a lot of shots are done in 3D to get them AWAY from you, so you can fully appreciate the scale of everything.

Say whatever else you will about Prometheus (and I expect a LOT of discussion and debate over the next couple weeks), but it's gorgeously shot and takes very good advantage of the 3D technology.
