I was there on opening day (not midnight, we don't really do midnight showings). The 3D was okay, but it didn't add to the movie at all, I don't think. Prometheus's 3D made the movie bearable, like the person you date that's ridiculously gorgeous but not completely there. Hugo's 3D just added to the period scenery, making it feel a bit more Lush. Nothing on Pandora made me feel that way.
I can imagine. It was an excellent movie in 2D, but it looks like it was designed for 3D, the way Beowulf was. (Okay, Beowulf wasn't that good in 2D either.)You're slightly more forgiven for omitting How to Train Your Dragon, but that one was amazing in 3D as well.
I generally feel this way about 3D, whether it's movies or gaming. I'm already paying $16 for a ticket in 2D, dammit, I don't want another $3.50 tacked on because they want me wearing another pair of glasses. This is why I noted the two examples of movies I thought actually worked in 3D.
I wear 2D glasses too; have since I was eight. Can't imagine wearing contacts or getting LASIK. 3D glasses are no longer bulky; they're more like those cheap souvenir sunglasses you get at the county fair, but large enough to fit over most regular glasses.

We were watching avatar at home and my partner fell alseep 30 mins into it. I watched it for 20 more mins and turned it off. My kid didnt seem to care for it. It sat there for a week and i just didnt feel like watching it so i returned it
I dont care for 3d at all. Ive seen several and it simply doesnt do anything for me.
Anyway. I watched High Lane. It was dubbed and it was awful.
Zero Dark Thirty was great. I liked that it didnt pussyfoot around torture, we all know it happened just give it to me straight. Jessica Chastain was definitely the best part about the movie and I now think she totally deserves Best Actress. The ending didnt really have much suspense as I would have liked, maybe that is because I knew more about it than I did Argo which had fantastic suspenseful moments, but I still enjoyed the entire movie. Best picture? No but its still pretty damn good.

I agree for the most part and the ending kinda did fall flat for me too, but the rest of the movie is great. For a subject matter I only hold mild interest in, it really kept me interested through the whole thing which I wasn't expecting going in, so it pleasantly surprised me.
Argo was a bit better at capturing the suspense and capitalizing on it though.

While I've been sick the last few days I caught up on my Mission Impossible flicks.
MI:3 - It's hard to believe a writer and director could be so inept. It was like Abrahms literally said, screw it, my audience is too stupid to know any better. Every cliche possible... even ones used in previous MI films. (Seriously, 1/3 IMF agents must be working for the bad guys.) Illogical scenes are thrown in for tension (Why was Ethan's G36 disassembled? Is it standard protocol to transport international terrorist with your gun in pieces in a box?) and just plain goofy scenes abound. (How would they not fall out of that helicopter banking like that. Even the damn doors were wide open) Oh, let's not forget the CSI level cinematography. Can you have just one scene not color saturated?
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - So, after that train wreck of a last film my hopes weren't up. Yet I was pleasantly surprised. Former Pixar director Brad Bird made a great MI film. Fun action sequences, a lot of humor, and good performances. While over the top, it doesn't talk own to it's audience either. Far superior to 3.
Zero dark thirty wasn't too good for me, I give it a 6/10. I understand it was supposed to be a historical representation of events leading to the death of bin laden, but I felt it was way too un-entertaining. I mean I wasn't expecting an action packed espionage blockbuster but come on! It dragged on way too long, the dialogue was drab, even the assault of the compound (which was supposed to be the most exciting part) was a bit of a bore, at least for me. They did do well of meeting their goal of being educational, so I gave a few points for that, but other than that it was boring. I think movies like the social network proved that historical reinterpretations can also be entertaining.
I also agree with www1221 that this wont be winning the Oscar for best picture.

Allow me to pick my jaw up off the floor...
Seriously, I don't know how you can even say that. There are entire pieces of filmmaking equipment, technology, and technique that were ****ing invented specifically with Avatar in mind. The director intends for it to be seen in 3D -- I would even argue that Avatar is necessarily not meant to be viewed in 2D at all (of course, 3DTV's being still relatively rare, most people watching it at home still will). This is the only movie about which I would make that claim.
What is your definition of "adding to the movie" if Avatar didn't do it?
I saw Zero Dark Thirty yesterday and I agree with this completely. The acting was great, esp from Jessica Chastain. Kept me entertained throughout, and even though I knew how it would end I still enjoyed it greatly. 8/10 from me. I think Kathryn Bigelow should have gotten a Best Director nomination though.
