The Cabin in the Woods (10/10)
Great horror flick, it doesn't have to resort to worthless nudity to draw in the crowd and it actually has its moments where you feel the suspense the genre lost a long time ago. It makes you want to root for the office workers, yet feel bad for the unfortunate cabin goers. Although a couple scenes were kind of unnecessary, (making out with the wolf head), it was all around solid. With the dock scene party, it took a step towards being corny yet thoroughly amusing. I wish they would have made the whole second half of the movie the whole movie, that alone would have deserved 15/5. The monsters all had their moments, and the special features did a minor look into them but wish they had gone as far in depth as those making the film did. Needless to say, its definitely worth the watch if you look good horror as far as nostalgia goes.
Sinister (8.5/10)
This movie was pretty great, except for the ending. To avoid much spoilers, you knew what was going to happen before it did. Even then, it was kind of a let down. The whole premise of "Mr Boogie" was kind of comical, but he did have that essence about him that kept you alert. One thing I thought was weird, the dad was nonchalant with his sons sleeping habits. If I say a kid come sprawling backwards out of a box at night in my kitchen, I would be freaking out. Ethan on the other hand was just like, "oh not this again."
Evil Dead (2012) (9/10)
I hate the very idea of sequels/prequels, and I despise remakes but since this is one of my favorite franchises I had to see it. It was pretty good to the theme of the original, and actually had its own series of events. It still had enough similarities to the original, but there was a couple that if you didn't watch the original you would be lost. (Yes, I'm talking about the angry molesting tree.) Needless to say, it was good.
Its worth the watch, since it was the same people behind this one that made the original, unlike most other remakes. It wouldn't hurt to watch the original for a background glance at what to expect, but its pretty straightforward. Its on Netflix if that helps persuade you as well.
I love the original. In fact I've got the Book of the Dead Edition. (Although it wasn't nearly that much when I bought it. It was only $20.)
Texas Chainsaw 3D - 3.5/10
Stupid and corny as expected, but bad enough to be entertaining at least a little bit.
