Mask of Zorro: 8/10
Quite simply one of the most fun movies of the past twenty or so years. Nothing deep about it; just a good ol' swashbuckler of a film.
Also Anthony Hopkins.

I really liked this one. The only weird thing is it makes The Dark Knight look out of place.

[rec]3 - i liked it a lot more than the 2nd one. the first one was fresh and fun, the second one was a first person shooters with way too much screaming and to exaushting to watch. the third one manage to stay fun and ditching the found footage was a good call.
Dark Knight Rises
Very good, and altogether I would put it above both Avengers and Amazing Spider-Man. The scope and pace were damn awesome, the action was awesome, and most of the acting was really surprising in its quality, especially from Anne Hathaway. But some parts were just sloppy. The big one is the stock exchange standoff and the subsequent chase. The scene at the stock exchange is set during the day, but despite being right afterwards chronologically, the next scene is at night. What? Towards the end, characters also relied too much on using info the audience knows but they don't, such as when people will ask "where is such and such?" and "how long until the bomb goes off?". We might know because we saw a prior scene with a different set of characters, but how do they know? It's the same problem I had with how the climax in Heavy Rain unravelled itself. It takes you out of the experience.
There are also a few minor plot holes, but the overall scale makes up for things, and I daresay that the final battles overtake those of The Avengers, mostly because there is actual danger involved. In Avengers, you never got the sense that any one of them could die. But there are a few moments here where you're like "Holy ****. He might not make it." And that's just sublime.

Apparently, I was the only one who had a problem with the Avengers not having a big enough climax. Glad to know I wasn't the last sane person alive.

The climax of The Avengers was plenty big enough, it just wasn't perilous. There's only one instance of a hero being in any real danger and it was completely fake anyway.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Avengers as did my whole clan. It could have been better of course, but it was more than worth seeing for sure. I think I gave it 3.5 stars which is plenty for any movie for me to like it.

While I haven't seen The Dark Knight Rises yet (I'll probably have done so by next Wednesday), what I know about the film makes it seem like comparisons to The Avengers, which I have seen, are equivalent to comparing apples to oranges. The films have entirely different tones and whatnot.
I see Avengers more as a "**** yeah we're the heroes!" type of movie while Batman is... not like that.
