If that was the best of the last 30 years, then I have no desire to watch any others in that time at least ones that have the entire script sung like Les Miserables. Great story indeed, but completely lost interest because it was a musical which are not my thing at all.
Agreed, absolutely ridiculous how that really happened, but the sad thing is that I can believe it. I know a few people that I'd bet would fall for the same thing if it were to happen to them. Completely uneducated in common sense some people are.

Ah, really? Which one do you think should have won it? I'm just curious, I haven't seen the others so I can't comment on them comparatively.
Agree with this. I always liken the Last Samurai to The 13th Warrior; and I enjoyed both films.
@MusicalsWithOperaticStructures(Technically): Some people just don't like singing during an entire show.
Mega - Not all musicals are sung-through (like Les Mis, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Miss Saigon). If you're opposed to those, then avoid any off this list.
I don't know what kind of tastes you have, but there are solid musicals from the 40s to 60s that can still hold up to this day. I highly suggest My Fair Lady, as it's one of my favorites with a double bonus of being turned into film starring Audrey Hepburn that was absolutely fantastic.
Edit: I took a friend of mine who isn't into musicals to see Wicked a few years ago. He enjoyed it a lot, though it didn't propel him into wanting to see any more. It's also not sung-through.

5+ years, 4,000+ songs, 1 awesome developer. Thank you!
finally saw Django. Freaking awesome.
On the animated film front, I think Wreck-It Ralph definitely should have won instead of Brave, which I did not care for at all.

Was pretty good but nothing fantastic. Nothing that happened in the movie seemed like it couldn't happen which I think works in the movie's favor and is kind of scary.

I know not all musicals are sung-through, I've seen a few that I like that are partially sung, but nothing that'll propel me to see more. I was tagged along to Les Miserables and I had no clue it was a full-on musical. I tried to get into it, but just the singing was a big distraction and slight annoyance to me. One of my friends though I don't think even blinked through the entire movie, so obviously, some people love 'em. I'm still on the fence myself, I'll make sure to check those recommendations out to see if they are able to sway me.

A typical movie you'd expect from Kevin James. A family-friendly, PG-13 comedy with a feelgood script, in other words, any writer with average writing skills could have written the same thing without much effort, nothing special here.
