Movie 43 - 1/10
How all these big names accepted their roles in this movie is beyond me.

I don't know if I should count the following as a "movie" since it is only a spec/fan film, but I may as well discuss it, even if I'm several months behind the times.
Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie
No, not the 90's anime movie, a 2013 fan-made film created as a framework for a Hollywood premise for a real film. Created by Blue Core Studios (the guys who did a campy yet enjoyable Megaman film), this 18 minute feature takes the (in)famous blue hedgehog and places him in the real world. It also includes several internet celebrity cameos, including Brental Floss, James "Nintendo Nerd" Rolfe and Doug Walker, among others. They even got the guy who did Sonic's voice for the 90's cartoon (the one that's the source of more YouTube Poops) to reprise his role as Sonic.
Let's talk first about the plot. It follows Dr. Robotnik's first evasion upon the world, and the rise of Sonic to save it. It's cool to see them come up with an origin story behind the series, but to me it's nothing more than a few set ups for scenes and a small semblance of plot. It's obvious that they intentionally left a lot out, since this is after all a spec film. How Robotnik took over the city is mostly unexplained, GUN is mentioned and shown, but never introduced, and there's little buildup to showing off Sonic himself. The action scenes take place in a forest and it's never explained why. There's also a thing where they call Sonic the "Blue Blur" for some reason, and I find it kinda annoying for some reason. Overall, the plot is way too loose to make it as anything more than a concept.
Now let's move on to production. I know this is a very low-budget feature, and that it took three years to make. But you don't need a high budget to find good actors. It seems everyone here is underplaying their roles. Even Doug Walker (famous as the Nostalgia Critic) seems bored here. He doesn't even have one line. Hell, even Aron Hansen (Egoraptor) has voice work that sounds like he just wanted out of there. The only person who seems to be having any fun is the guy who played Robotnik, and I don't even think he was working that hard (but then again the audio here was badly mixed).
The CGI here is what gets me. Texture models seem lifted from a Dreamcast game (fitting comparison seeing how this is a Sonic film). This seems fine for something that took maybe six months, but this took three years to make. I would think they could make better CGI with that time. Also, Sonic is the creepiest thing I've seen in a long time. They decided to make his hair ultra-realistic, resulting in something that looks more like a sheep than the character people expect to see. He also seems to have a bit of an overbite. His animations are pretty awkward, too. They did do a CGI recreation of the Green Hill Zone at the end, and I felt that it was the best part of the film, only because it looked pretty cool. It seems they hired a guy who was better at environments than character models.
Overall, this film is not something I'd recommend unless you're either a hardcore Sonic fan or really drunk and want something to laugh at. It's up on YouTube in it's entirety, though, so if you want you can view it and come to your own conclusions. I, however, did not enjoy it, despite it's one or two nice things about it.

Battleship -- 2/10
This was really bad, then again I should have known better then to trust a movie based off a board game. (Clue got lucky since it actually has a plot to it, plus bonus points for the actors/actresses that were involved.) I thought it was pretty comical when it wasn't supposed to be, and truly sad at how bad some of the acting was, especially Rihanna. Not even Liam Neeson could save this movie.
Spanglish -- 5/10
It could have been better, it was bad but it did have the tone right. I gave it a higher rank, just for Flo. Anyways, this movie could have probably done better without Sandler, he just doesn't have the right vibe for his role, like you want to feel bad but you can't because of his demeanor.
That's exactly how I felt about the movie, but I was lambasted for not appreciating "Adam Sandler's dramatic prowess" or something. Here he's always awkwardly going with what's going on. His character is also overly nice. I know it's supposed to be a plot point, but it makes him so dull.
