Everybody knows that Motley Crue is all about cheap thrills. So we’re keeping that in mind and offering three loud, nasty tracks for a buck each. All three bands are featured on the “Cruefest” tour, soon to be causing temporary hearing damage and wrecked hotel rooms in a city near you.
The Crue lead off the pack with “Down at the Whisky” a second track from their latest disc Saints of Los Angeles (whose title song premiered on Rock Band earlier this season). It’s the first album in eleven years by the all-original Crue, and this song finds them in a nostalgic mood, yearning for the good old days of Sunset Strip decadence. But the tune sports enough classic Crue riffage to suggest the wild days aren’t too far gone.
Once known as one of the premier rap-rock bands, Papa Roach are now coming down strong on the rock side of the fence. On “Time is Running Out” they forego their customary gloom worldview to kick out a strong, defiant anthem with a fight-back “I refuse to surrender” chorus and a fist-pumping rhythm. No less infectious is the latest from post-grunge rockers Trapt, whose “Who’s Going Home With You Tonight” sounds like a big radio hit waiting to happen. If it is you can say you heard it here first, because the band’s new album “Only Through the Pain” isn’t even out for another month.
The songs in Rock Band are only the beginning. Each week we’ll be rolling out more downloadable songs, essential tracks (and sometimes whole albums) from every era of rock history. Check the Rock Band website to find out what’s new.
Tracks will usually sell for $1.99 each; with three-pack specials costing $5.49. (On the Xbox 360, that’s 160 Microsoft Points per track and 440 per three-pack). Occasional special or discounted tracks may cost a dollar more or less.
Downloadable content for the Xbox 360 is available through the XBOX LIVE marketplace. Downloads for the PLAYSTATION 3 version of Rock Band are available through the PLAYSTATION Network Store. In each case, the songs are downloaded onto your hard drive.
