Rock Band was AWESOME.

That's really all that needs to be said - but I know it's not enough to satisfy you crazed impression-starved masses, so here goes:

Guitar - The guitar is very, very nice. it was odd the first day I used it simply because it was so...different. The second day when I went back and picked it up again, I played a few more songs and it started to sink in.

The buttons are really quite nice feeling, and while there's no blatant point between the buttons I'm sure it's something we will get used to in time, and shouldn't take long. The lower buttons are bad ass as well, but one has to remember to actually use them during a solo!

The strum bar is very nice. Very Quiet. This also took some getting used to because of the fact that the 'clicking' in guitar hero is used to measure how many strums I took and such.

The strum bar however is a lot thinner towards the inside and sort of pans out to a rounded tip.. kind of like if you took a 'Sorry' game piece and cut it in half, that's what the strum bar would look like from the sides.

I really do like the guitar, and hope it doesn't take too much time to get used to. I think it'll be great. It just feels better and was actually quite odd going back to the GH guitars later that night.

Drums - = omegawesometon,

They are SO fun to play and the hardware was very well built, and even took a BEATING by some people (including me, I got into it a little too much at first), but are very sensitive.

Apparently the retail versions are going to be even better + quieter! If you've ever had a desire to play drums you will love this. The kick pedal feels great, the pads have a good amount of bounce, but I did not watch any expert notecharts so I can't comment on how crazy it gets, but hard for some songs was pretty damn challenging.

The stand is also able to lower or raise thanks to clips on the legs.

Vocals - oh man... oh man! Once again, these are way more fun than I thought they would be, and now I find myself singing the songs even after I left the stage.

I really can't wait until this comes out. It's a lot more fun singing along when you KNOW THE WORDS. Plus, with vocals it doesn't take too long to get the gist of how a song sounds if you've never heard it before, just maybe one or two listens and you know what to expect.

Don't get me wrong though - they are very challenging and I do think this will actually help some people with their singing if they try. It's great fun, but it's also disappointing when you watch some people not even try and just do their own thing.(which usually sounds like ass) It can be hilarious when done correctly however ;)

I'm not even going to try to embed this again, it gave me hell:

http://video.rockband.com/events/mtv_rockband/highlights/viewvid.asp?v=1075024

so awesome.

as for the tour itself, they did a great job, were very active, and there were three stations inside the bus, as well as the one stage outside.

Everyone playing was chill too, and I actually met a few cool cats since I had to find all new bands each time since I went alone, it was awesome. This game is going to bring people together and everyone will love it.

Oh, yeah. MTV taped one of our songs on stage and then interviewed us, it was awesome, like 20 minutes at least. It's gonna be sweet if any of this stuff makes it to... well.. anywhere!

169.99? Yes please... oh, and throw in a 1600 point card for some downloads.

:)

I simply can't wait for this game.

Finally five starred EVERY song on expert. The last two being Six and Jordan. Jordan I just finished (woot) and Six I finished a couple days ago.

now comes the hardest part... beating the game on easy medium and hard to get the rest of my achievements.. ugh. I wish I got them automatically for beating expert like gears does with its difficulty levels. I can't stand playing the lower difficulties.. and having to go through all three for just achievements is going to be killer.. I'm not sure I'm up for it.. thats like.. 200 songs+! thats a long time =(

anyway. I'm happy. I never thought I would EVER beat jordan let alone 5* it let alone 5* EVERYTHING.

so happy! if anyone wants to make me a shirt that says I five starred every song on expert YES INCLUDING JORDAN  (or something) that would be sweet.

Well, I had to do it.

There was 4 songs really bugging me last night that I had to beat, Institutionalized, The Trooper, Rock this town, and Misirlou.

I just could not 5 star these. Until last night. I felt a surge of power. I kept playing misirlou, and kept raising my score, but still never 5*'d, I was so sad, so I went to try the other songs, and was able to 5* my first try on Rock This town (FINALLY), Institutionalized I restarted twice but when I fully played it through I had 5 starred that too!, the trooper has a bunch of really annoying parts to get right, but wouldn't you know? my second time playing that through I was able to 5* it too!

There was magic in the air! I must be improving!

Then there was Misirlou. This beast I had to try about 20 times, I still can't really get the strumming timing right for some reason. My score started at 130k and I was able to boost it to 150k.. still no 5 star.. 170k.. still no.. 180k.. nope.. 190k!!!.. nope.. finally 203k, I had five starred it, and I had gotten the Start A Real Band Already achievement for 5*'ing all expert songs. And access to the log.

What do I have to say for myself? WOOT!

Bring on Rock Band!

Well, it's been interesting so far lol.

First of all, everyone there is very nice. I've met two of my three roomates (the third is always gone/always in his room), and they are nice as well.

The first day was pretty counter-productive considering we had to get my computer all set up, and install everything.

Long story short.. Vista does not play nice with 3D Studio Max.. So I spent the rest of that night reading documentation on how to use some of the tools I would be working with.

This morning we formatted and installed XP, and I'm in the process of learning how to use and import things into the Torque Engine. I'm getting a hang of it and by tomorrow there shouldn't be any problems bringing animated stuff in and working with it, and I'll probably have much more to do tomorrow.

So, yeah, I'm enjoying it =D

I pick up my monitor tomorrow from UPS so I'll be on XBL tomorrow night if anyone wanted to play some gears or something.

I'll keep ya updated!

Well, only a few days left until I depart from Illinois to Oregon for my internship.

What's that you say?

Well... I'm a student in the field of Game Art and Design, and this is just one of the steps along the way that I am taking to become an awesome figure in the game industry.(one of my lifelong goals)*

I managed to secure a spot at GarageGames, Inc. in Oregon and I will be interning with them for my entire next quarter, I am super stoked.

Lucky for me, they offer free housing and internet for all my housing and internetting needs.

They look like a great group of people, so wish me luck and may I come back with thrice the amount of knowledge I've learned thus far in college, I'm gonna blow everyone away at our portfolio show after I graduate (which is still a few quarters away, mind you), and I'm confident about that. It's just a matter of discipline, you see.

This is the longest I will have ever been away from my fiance, Kathleen, whom I met on my second day of college. Yeah yeah, but still. ok shut up. It will just be interesting. That's right... FREEDOM!! BAHAHA!

So a lot of stuff is happening within the few days before I leave, including a hella lot of cleaning of the apartment, and a hella lot of Guitar Hero 2 playing. I just wish Super Paper Mario came out earlier, because I'm not bringing my wii with me :( Now I gotta wait until July. Bah. However, I will be taking my 360 with me so if anyone wants to play me in some games, my GT is Sc00t420, send me an invite.

* Lifelong goals include:
- Making people happy
- Being a big figure in the gaming industry (eventually, you'll see! Either in design or art, currently I'm working towards the art goal)
- Being and playing in a (preferably METAL) Band (you know, I'm not bad at guitar but I just can't find anyone to play with around here!!)

Well, I'm done with Guitar Hero 2 for today. It's been a long day.

I did all the songs, there's only two remaining that havent been 4 or 5 starred - FTK and Rock this town. I will deal with those two tomorrow.

my current standing on the overall leaderboards is 27 of around 70k+ people, I'm pretty happy about that =D but I know given more time people are gonna step up and I'm going to lose some places.

However, I only played each song once, and I know I can do a lot better on most. The leaderboards truly opened up a lot more to the game, and I can't wait for some downloadable songs.

there's a picture of my rank in the photo section if anyone wanted to see.

So tomorrow I'm gonna work on my main career rank more and head towards 5*ing all the main songs. There's a few nasty buggers I hate (rock this town, Freya) but I think I can do it.

For now, sleep!

Woot, got it this morning, woke up a little late.. store opened at 10 I woke at like 10:15 :(

been playing, up to 5th teir now, gotta run to the mall though

theres a lot of crazy insane good people out there, I mean, I've only done each song once so far so i've yet to do my best, but theres so many people that are better its nuts.

I gotta beat jordan later today so I can get my achievement, and I was in the top 10 for 'Six' earlier. I know I can get higher just gotta keep trying

game is great so far, love some of the new songs and can't wait until the DLC is up.

Rock on!

So, if this works, then apparently Safari won't let me post one of these. I'm on Firefox now.

and because I do not wish to type it all over again, I'll summarize:

- I'm super hyped for GH2 360, even though I already played it a bazillion times on ps2.

- Hoping to see new artists soon via DL/C (Opeth and Dream Theater in particular... I can dream)

- VERY excited to see how I fare on Online Leader boards

- I'm SUPER SUPER RIDICULOUSLY Hyped about Rock Band, although I hope it has a good selection of songs (then again, definition of 'good' is on an individual basis, everyone has their own tastes and opinion). I'm not saying MTV and EA are bad... but um..my tastes differ slightly from what they both play. I'm sure it's going to rule though, I mean, HARMONIX is making it. And it's coming this year!

Can anyone say GOTY!?

well... perhaps, but mass effect, gta4, bioshock, halo 3, mario galaxy, smash bros, and lost odyssey might have something to say about that, as well as many other sick titles this year. perhaps even another Guitar hero.. :)

STOKED!

last but not least...

- I hate street dates.

I don't really like myspace at all, but this is freaking Rock Band man. Had to be a part of this. :)
