The Story
This song comes from a heartwarming episode where SpongeBob SquarePants prepares to have an all-time great day, but gets sidetracked by the comic scrapes that all his friends get into. So he puts aside his plans and helps everyone out, to see his big plans for the day go down the tubes. But he learns that because he’s helped out his friends and they’re all there with him, it really has been the best day ever. Aw shucks.
Trivia
Many listeners will notice that this song sounds like the Beach Boys or a solo track by their leader, Brian Wilson. And there’s a reason for that- though no, Wilson wasn’t involved. The song, however, was produced and co-written by Andy Paley, a pop veteran who was originally part of a punk/pop duo with his brother Jonathan in the '70s (The Paley Brothers can be heard on the soundtrack of the Ramones’ movie, Rock’n’Roll High School).
More recently Paley’s worked behind the scenes with a handful of rock legends—including Brian Wilson, whose influence is all over this SpongeBob song. Wilson does appear elsewhere on the soundtrack album, as does drummer Tommy Ramone—Paley’s still got some of the best connections around.
Gameplay Hints
On guitar, get the double strum down and watch out for the patterns with your index finger locked on a fret and an alt finger finishing the combination.
The drum part has some syncopation between the hands and the kick, but you should fall into it.
