The Story
The UK loves its pop, and the UK loves Glasvegas: The Scottish combo’s debut album topped a few handfuls of ten-best lists in 2008 before the States caught on.
The band professes a love for early '60s pop but the sound of the band’s first single “Geraldine” is thoroughly modern, keyed to James Allen’s emotive voice and the jittery rhythms beloved by Scottish bands.
Geraldine herself became a minor celebrity in the UK; she’s a social worker who left her job to support the band on tour. One critic tracked her down and she gave him a free T-shirt; and English social workers’ associations applauded the way the song celebrates Geraldine’s warm heart.
Trivia
One of Glasvegas’ more famous fans is Lisa Marie Presley. Elvis’ daughter invited the band out for a drink during a recent trip to Edinburgh.
Gameplay Hints
This one’s not a heavy challenge, but it sure is fun. On guitar, you’ll do fine if you can hold a steady strum.
The drum part has no kick at all—a definite rarity in Rock Band—but it’s a lively, propulsive part.
On vocals, a good Scottish accent won’t improve your score, but will add to your authenticity.
Where Are They Now?
Still on the rise. In spring 2009 they toured America and played South By Southwest, and they’ll be opening some dates on U2’s summer tour.
