The Story

This one is a Rock Band exclusive. Cheap Trick’s In Color may be a classic album, but the band was never totally happy with the production; which softened their edge in search of a hit (guitarist Rick Nielsen put it this way: “Sonically it’s wimpy and we’re not wimpy”).

So in 1997, a full two decades after the original, they set out to record a non-wimpy version of In Color with producer Steve Albini (of Pixies, Nirvana and Big Black fame). Harsher and louder than the original, but with the same killer pop hooks, the new In Color became a cult classic with the fans who heard it—which they could only do illegally, as the band never released it.

This opening track—which has also opened nearly every concert Cheap Trick have ever played—makes its official debut here.

Trivia

Cheap Trick guitarist Nielsen and drummer Bun E. Carlos were part of John Lennon’s 1980 recording sessions in New York. They backed Lennon on “I’m Losing You,” a song that Cheap trick also cut for the unreleased Albini sessions.

Gameplay Hints

At 90 seconds, “Hello There” is the shortest song ever to appear in Rock Band.
