The Story

Who doesn’t have some kind of romantic associations with this one? The essence of Duran Duran comes down to sex and intrigue; that’s what the song is all about and it’s what came through on their landmark videos.

Bassist John Taylor admitted many years later that Little Red Riding Hood inspired the song—maybe that’s why it’s “Hungry Like The Wolf” instead of “..A Wolf” (also, the first version is way easier to sing).

In any case, the exotic video (shot in Sri Lanka) was hardly a children’s story and the song got a life of its own; leading even princess Diana to call Duran Duran her favorite band. It became one of the 15 most-played videos in MTV history and was covered many times; notably by Hole on an MTV Unplugged in 1996.

Trivia

At the time of this song’s release, Duran Duran toured the US as Blondie’s opening act.

Gameplay Hints

A great song doesn’t have to be hyper-complicated, and this one isn’t: Jump right in and get the party started. Just don’t forget to wear something sharp, though getting your hair coiffed for the occasion may be a bit excessive.

Where Are They Now?

The original Duran Duran lineup reunited in 2000; all but guitarist Andy Taylor are still aboard.
