The Story
By the time of 1989’s The Miracle, rumors were starting to spread that singer Freddie Mercury was suffering from AIDS. Alas, it turned out to be true; though he chose not to go public at the time. Freddie wanted the band to keep working, though he was no longer able to go on the road; instead they concentrated on albums and videos.
“I Want It All” was Queen’s first single after a two-year hiatus. Mercury told an interviewer at the time that it was a real struggle between the bandmembers to choose the right song. They wound up choosing this hard-rocking number which, they admitted, wasn’t tailor-made for British radio at the time. “We may be making a huge mistake, but it’s very us.”
Trivia
For most of their career, all four Queen members wrote individual songs on every album. The Miracle marked the first time that every song was credited to the band as a whole.
Gameplay Hints
The Miracle was largely a guitar album, and this is a real guitar song. There are three solos to watch for, but it’s the second one that will really catch you up. There are some very serious descending runs so be prepared for them, with Overdrive or light fingers.
Where Are They Now?
Freddie is in heaven. John Deacon is retired. Brian May and Roger Taylor recently revived Queen with ex-Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers.
