The Story

The first single from Weezer’s late-2009 album Raditude addresses a subject that many of us can relate to. As Rivers Cuomo explains, “It’s about that moment when you know you like somebody, but you don’t know if they like you, so you don’t know if you should tell them. The two of you are sitting there, it’s very awkward. That’s what the song is about.”

The video shows the comic chaos that results when a femme-fatale character shows up in Weezerville, a town populated entirely by guys who look just like the members of Weezer. Working at a fast pace, Weezer released the “If You’re Wondering…” single just 14 months after they’d released 2008’s Red Album.

Trivia

“If You’re Wondering…” caused quite a stir in mid-August 2009, when the song was leaked on various internet sites two weeks before its scheduled release. Though the band and its label did their best to plug the leak, most of Weezer’s fans had heard the song by then.

Gameplay Hints

On bass and drums, you can prep for this song by playing The Jam’s “A Town Called Malice”; both have the same rhythm and similar tricky syncopation. On vocals, the chorus starts on a high note after a string of talkies, so be ready.

Where Are They Now?

The band is going strong, but Weezer’s December 2009 tour had to be cancelled when Rivers Cuomo and his family were injured in a tour-bus crash.
