The Story
Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble made their first album Texas Flood without the benefit of a big budget or endless studio time: They just turned on the machines and did what they did in clubs.
“Rude Mood” was one of the songs that obviously slayed ‘em live, a full five-minutes’ worth of dazzling guitar licks with a rhythm section that kicks and stomps for all it’s worth. Vaughan’s love for Jimi Hendrix is well known, but his cleaner tone on “Rude Mood” shows the influence of earlier blues players like Lonnie Mack and Albert Collins.
Imagine yourself at Antones—the funky blues bar on 5th Street in Austin—sometime after midnight with a sweaty and well-oiled crowd, and you’ll have the right ambiance for this tune.
Trivia
Double Trouble’s bassist Tommy Shannon played at Woodstock, as a member of Johnny Winter’s band.
Gameplay Hints
Even our Expert playtesters can’t help you with this one: The guitar part is about as tough as it gets and Stevie Ray plays something different everytime he takes a solo; so just enjoy the ride.
The drum part is easier to master if you’ve got the stamina, which is a big “if”—Can you handle five minutes worth of 16th notes?
At least the vocal part is really easy, since the song is an instrumental.
