The Story
The second of The Zombies’ US hits, this one hit the American charts in early 1965. But surprisingly, this was the last that America would hear of The Zombies for several years. A string of excellent followup singles failed to chart; and in 1967 the band recorded one last-ditch album: A more sophisticated concept album known as Odessey & Oracle.
With its imaginative orchestration and psychedelic overtones, that album became a cult sensation and one of its tracks, “Time of the Season,” hit the US charts in 1969—years after The Zombies had broken up. The Zombies’ cult following and critical reputation would only grow stronger in the coming decades.
Trivia
The Zombies’ keyboardist Rod Argent was already present on Rock Band: That’s him playing keyboards on The Who’s “Who Are You.”
Gameplay Hints
The chord changes can get especially tricky, so take your time and concentrate on your hand placement.
Where Are They Now?
Singer Colin Blunstone and keyboardist Rod Argent stayed busy over the years; the latter led the ‘70s band Argent of “Hold Your Head Up” fame. Four of the five original Zombies (minus the late guitarist Paul Atkinson) toured the UK in 2008, playing their Odessey & Oracle album in its entirety.
