The Story
This song was literally born on the Fourth of July: it had its first live performance on Independence Day 2009, when the Foo Fighters appeared (alongside Jimmy Fallon and Michelle Branch) at a USO-sponsored White House barbecue. No word on whether President Obama put the Foo Fighters into his famous iPod, but he and his family were at the show, along with 1,200 active military troops and their families.
The studio version of “Wheels” was one of two new songs to appear on the Foo Fighters’ Greatest Hits album in November 2009, and it marked leader Dave Grohl’s reunion with producer Butch Vig, who had produced Nirvana’s immortal Nevermind.
Trivia
We all know that Dave Grohl is all over Rock Band, but Butch Vig is no slouch either. Along with Nirvana and Foo Fighters, he produced I by Smashing Pumpkins, Against Me!, L7, and Green Day.
Gameplay Hints
If you struggled with the others, here you have a Foo Fighters song that’s pretty easy to play. The drum part is a breeze compared to the killer one on “Everlong.” The guitar part is nice and slow with a few HOPO chains to keep it interesting.
Where Are They Now?
Fighters remain on hiatus as of November 2009, but Grohl is making big news as one-third of Them Crooked Vultures (with Josh Homme and John Paul Jones) whose debut CD is due for release.
