I'm not quite sure yet that people have fully embraced the idea of the potential that this game could have. Consider this:
Forming a band with 4 players from all parts of the country. You could have setlists, you could have your own band page on this website, you could have fans, you could have practices, you can schedule concerts, other Rock Band players could log in to your online concert in the game, and fill virtual seats, they can spectate, and listen to you perform from all different states, maybe from all different countries. You could limit your concert to an intimate 20 listeners, or go bigger.
Imagine if somehow a "free note" option was instituted, meaning that you create your own sounds, you could actually create brand new songs, record sections and append them, save the songs, grabbing all the data from the players in the band, save it to a music file, uploadable to your page at this website, or in the game universe.
Imagine a lobby where you can post an opportunity - say you and your friend in New Jersey just made a new band, but you need a bassist, you can go to a place in the lobby where bassists are looking for bands, you can pick who you want, and create your online band.
You could make a band with 4 drummers, you could make an r&b type group with a drummer, bass, and a male and female singer. You could create a hot Drum and Bass act - fast drums, hard bass, and a MC vocalizing it all.
You could be a celebrity - Imagine the best Guitar Hero players getting together with some really good vocalists. Imaging a real band having a contest where they search for a replacement singer for a night, you're singing their songs, the real artists are playing their song from their respective places across the country.
There already seems to be an issue about cost. Well, okay. Think of the band Green Day, I find it hard to believe that when they started out, all three members bought a guitar, a bass, and drums. I might buy the drums, and I'll be a rogue drummer for a few bands, and then I'll hone my skills in the other areas at my leisure.
You could be the member of 47 bands if you wanted to. Just like random Harmonix members mix and match people to form small bands, we will do the same.
These are just a couple of possibilites that could be possible with this concept. I guess time will tell if it all takes off.
