So, my two favorite bands - CAKE and Modest Mouse, as most of you know - both have new releases coming this year. What does that make me? Ecstatic, to put it mildly.

CAKE actually has 4 releases set for this year or next (or next), including a re-issue of their first album, a new studio album and a live album!

1. Motorcade of Generosity (Re-issue) - Autumn 2008
This was their first album, originally released in 1994. They're re-issuing it with bonus video content and a fancy digi pack. No word yet on if they're going to remaster the tracks. Also, it's being re-issued on their own label, Upbeat Records. Does that mean they own all these tracks themselves? If so, they should be even easier to get into Rock Band! My votes from this album are "Jolene", "Rock 'n' Roll Lifestyle", "Is This Love?", "Jesus Wrote a Blank Check", "Mr. Mastodon Farm" and "Ain't No Good".

2. An untitled studio album! - late 2008/early 2009
No word on this one yet, other than that it's coming out sometime this year or early next year. I am incredibly excited to hear what CAKE will come up with next. I just hope it's better than Pressure Chief. Not that Pressure Chief was a bad album, it just wasn't up to par with any of CAKE's previous albums, Comfort Eagle, Prolonging the Magic, Fashion Nugget and Motorcade of Generosity. Those four were masterpieces, where as Pressure Chief was just a piece made by masters.

3. Live at the Crystal Palace - hopefully sometime in 2008 (or 2012)
This one has been long delayed for many years (the performance took place in 2005, with the album originally scheduled for Fall 2006). It was announced even before B-Sides and Rarities, which came out last year. Hell, there's even cover art for the album! Will we finally see LatCP this year? I sure hope so! Time will tell.

4. A fan tribute album - project and release: unknown
A while back (a year or two, possibly more), CAKE put its fans to the challenge of covering CAKE songs in whichever stylistic rendering they pleased. An excellent concept, especially for connecting with the fans. But once the deadline for entry passed, we never heard anything else about it. CAKE certainly still has all the recordings, but it's obviously no longer a priority. Will we ever see this? One can only hope. To put it into perspective: CAKE has since held a fan-created "War Pigs" music video contest and a fan-created t-shirt design contest.

Modest Mouse has an EP scheduled.

- An untitled EP - sometime in 2008
Modest Mouse EPs are just as good as their albums (have a listen to 'The Fruit That Ate Itself' and 'Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks'), so this should get even the non-die-hard fans excited! It's gonna include "repolished outtakes from Modest Mouse's last two discs." (That's 'Good News...' and 'We Were Dead...') Also, some of the songs, according to Brock, are: "The Whale Song", "Satellite Skin", and a tune with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
