We Got More Rokk: Freezepop Times Three

We're giving the classic rock and vintage alternative a temporary rest this week and going ultra-modern: Freezepop's "Brainpower" and "Sprode" were some of the more daring entries in Rock Band so far - with synths instead of guitars, sweet vocals instead of snarling ones, and a snappy electronic pulse - and lots of you loved it for that very reason. Even if you thought you hated techno-pop, we defy you to keep your feet still or your face from smiling while you take in "Less Talk More Rokk" (which was the #4 dance/electronic song on iTunes in 2007), "Get Ready 2 Rokk," and the very empowering "Science Genius Girl."
The band sealed its status as a Boston favorite last year when they swept the Boston Phoenix's Best Music Poll. Shortly thereafter, keyboardist and programmer The Duke of Pannekoeken (yes, he's the one who works for Harmonix in another life) announced his departure from the group, but Liz Enthusiasm and Sean T. Drinkwater are carrying the party on; we hear they were a big hit at the PAX showcase in Seattle last week.
A few fun facts: the band once had a song on the sexy TV series "The L Word" but singer Liz Enthusiasm was unable to watch it because none of her friends have the Showtime channel. When Liz once admitted that she'd never played any of her songs in music games because she doesn't own a Playstation, a fan tracked her down and sent her one. Asked to compile their favorite albums some time ago, Liz picked Duran Duran as number one while the other two members went with two different Depeche Mode albums. And when an interviewer once asked the band to choose between wheat, rice, and corn, two of the members went with corn because it was so versatile. The Duke of Pannekoeken held out for rice because he loves sushi.
Get ready to rock with the best music school on the planet!
