Hope's P!nk Sweater E3 Recap

p_nk.jpg

Hope’s P!nk Sweater, winners of the fast paced 24 hour Pepsi Rock Band Video Contest, bring you their star struck E3 recap, covering the airport, the HMX wrap party and everything in between.  These guys held it down at E3 and saved us from crippling depression while our flight was delayed at LAX, and for that they have earned a permanent spot in the Rock Band Hall of Fame (and our hearts).

We couldn’t believe it when we got the call to go to E3. We all just happened to be hanging out, and Ryan got a call that said, “Hey, would Hope’s P!nk Sweater like to go to E3?” We were bouncing off the walls with excitement. We’ve never been to L.A. before, so we knew this was going to be an amazing trip! I mean how often do you get to go to a place like that… for FREE???

We landed in LA the following day and were whisked away in a limousine to our hotel. Since we’ve never been, our driver took us on a slightly indirect route to show us some of the sights before we got there. After a bit of a drive and seeing the awesomeness that is Los Angeles (and accidentally getting dropped off at the wrong hotel at first) we made it to our hotel… and immediately hit the Hot Tub.

The next morning was the big day. We got dressed up just like we would for any performance we give (we tend to do that a lot). We met with Kerith, our “Talent Manager” for the day (I get a kick out of that term every time) who drove us to the Expo. Among the HUGE Pepsi logos painted on the signs of buildings, we knew we were getting close as billboards and ads for all sorts of new games coming out started popping up everywhere.

As soon as we entered, we saw the huge Pepsi “Drink Up, Rock Out” Stage right smack dab in the middle of the entrance. We thought, “What better way to start the day off by putting on a bit of a show?” After rocking out to a few songs (and making a number of new fans) we got our E3 All Access passes and our MTV booth wrist bands (Not gonna lie, we started to feel like V.I.P.s at this point). At the booth, The Beatles: Rock Band was set up for people to try out.

Kerith got us a few bottles of Pepsi to sip on as we went in to see the guys from Harmonix give us a demo of the game.  Vocal harmonies are something we’ve actually wanted in a game for a while, and they’ve finally arrived! Being able to follow The Beatles’ career in music will be an awesome experience. Not to mention the amazing visuals in the game (super trippy!). After the demo, we had a chance to try out the game. Words can’t describe the amazing. It’s not just new songs in a Rock Band game this time; it’s a whole new experience. We can’t wait for the release.

Along with The Beatles: Rock Band, Rock Band: Unplugged and Lego Rock Band were out on display. Unplugged looks really fun (fans of Harmonix’ earlier titles FreQuency and Amplitude will feel right at home with this one) and Lego RB looks to create a more family oriented environment, in its quirky “Lego” sort of sense, while providing a broader soundtrack everyone can enjoy. (Because let’s face it: Mom’s probably not as excited about Iron Maiden coming out on RB as you are.)

We also got a chance to walk the floor of E3 and check out all sorts of new titles coming out. I mean seriously, that’s exciting! Being hyped up on sugar from drinking a ton of free Pepsi probably didn’t help much. Considering it’s a press only event, it’s great that a couple of guys from Dallas, Texas got to experience the Expo first hand!

Just before the convention was over, some of the guys at Harmonix approached us and invited us to their E3 wrap up after party. Umlemmethinkaboutit YES! What a chance; to play Rock Band with the guys that MADE Rock Band! So we hung out with them for the rest of the night. What a way to end this amazing trip, huh?
